I am an experienced computer programmer having developed games on a number of platforms in a variety of languages for over 14 years.

Education:

September 1981 to July 1988:
Blakelaw Comprehensive, Newcastle upon Tyne.

Qualifications:

O Levels: Maths, Geography.

CSEs: Physics(Grade 1), English Literature, English Language, Biology, Human Biology. 

Computing Skills:

Started programming in BASIC when I was 12 years old.  Eventually moved onto Assembly Language for the Z80 processor.  Since programming as a career I have learnt 6502, 80x86 and 68000 Assembly Languages.  My current programming languages include C/C++ and J2ME (Java).

I have developed for a wide variety of platforms, including PC (both Windows and DOS), Sony PlayStation, Sony PlayStation 2, Sega Saturn, Commodore 64, Sinclair Spectrum and Pocket PC and various Java enabled mobile phones.

I have experience in using Criterion’s multi-platform 3D engine RenderWare.

I have experience in both conversions/ports and original titles.

Also, I have worked on a wide variety of game styles.  These include, racing games, card gambling, sports, kids and puzzle/strategy titles.

Self Employed                09-02-2003 to present

Writing games for mobile phones in Java / J2ME.  These have been for handsets from Nokia, SonyEricsson, Motorola, Sharp, Samsung, Siemens etc.

Network Employment     10-12-2003 to 30-01-2004

Working at different sites for clients of Network Employment, all temporary positions.  The work has involved general office work, filing, calling existing customers with delivery dates and entering information on the computer system, etc.

Blue Monkey Studios        01-11-2002 to 13-10-2003

Here I gained experience in using the Renderware multi-platform 3D engine in developing the PC Windows title Barbie Horse.  I also wrote a PlayStation title. 

Runecraft Limited            09-03-1999 to 01-11-2002

I worked on approximately 8 titles for the Sony PlayStation including Risk, Grand Theft Auto London and Caesars Palace 2000.  I also worked on the PlayStation 2 title Butt Ugly Martians – Zoom or Doom.

Imagitec Design Inc / Gremlin Interactive      18-04-1994 to 08-03-1999

It was here where I first gained experience of working in teams.  I was an assistant programmer for such games as Raiden and Evolution for the PC (MS-DOS 8086).  I was lead programmer in converting Jeff Minter’s Tempest 2000 from the Atari Jaguar (68000/RISC) to PC (16bit MS-DOS & 32bit Windows 95, 80x86).  I developed an isometric engine and map editor, which later became the basis for another game.

I was responsible for taking the original Actua Soccer and creating a new Club Edition title for the Sega Saturn.  I was also involved in Actua Soccer 2 and Premier Manager 99 for the Sony PlayStation.

I wrote 5 games for the Sinclair Spectrum (Z80), 4 titles for the Commodore 64 (6502) and 3 for the PC (MS-DOS, 8086).

I also have some experience developing for the Pocket PC (Windows CE), which I have done in my own time.

Interests:

I enjoy watching movies, both at the cinema and at home.  I enjoy playing badminton and squash and have also been known to play 5 a side football occasionally.

As well as writing games I enjoy playing them too, I have several consoles including a PlayStation 2, Dreamcast and Nintendo 64.

I enjoy driving and have a keen interest in Japanese sports cars; having owned 3 Toyota Celica’s and currently have a Toyota MR2.
